Mushroom Hunting

A couple years ago we met a guy named Abe who is an avid "mushroomer" and he told us that there is something like 90 edible mushrooms growing in Gustavus and Greg loves mushrooms. Abe wouldn't take Greg picking (that would give away the locations)but he told him to get the "Mushroom Bible" and it has everything that you need to know about poisonous and nonpoisonous mushrooms. Well, we finally got a book on them and Greg has decided that "Mushroom Hunting" should be our new hobby :) It's actually more fun than it sounds and gives us a reason to go hiking around. So tonight before it got dark we went tromping around and found one kind of edible ones and one kind of poisonous ones.
Greg was the mushroom picker and I helped scout for them

There is our little mushroom book

These are the good mushrooms called Angel Wings

And the bad mushrooms called Red-hot Milkcaps

The happy "mushroomers"

I'm actually really happy Greg is getting into this mushroom hunting thing because that means he will go with me to find berries since I'm to scared to go out into the woods by myself (bears)...which also means canned jams for everyone and whatever else I can make :)

Hey, we are picking mushrooms here also. We came home with probably 5 lbs of Chantrels on Sunday. I found they sell them at Fred Mayer for $15.00/lb!

PS ~ Love ALL the cute pics of you guys. xo
